At last… after 4 months, 15,000 miles and 16 different African countries our adventure has finally come to an end. As we head down into southern Africa, the end of this mammoth and epic adventure seems to be hurtling towards us at speed. Minefields and mountains in Angola.

What a country! After possibly the slowest border crossing of the trip so far we eventually get the all clear from the border guards and ride off into Angola. The Congos!

At last we can get cracking on this tough, but very rewarding section of the expedition. From the fast and well maintained roads in Gabon down to the border with Congo we take the chance to enjoy good roads. When we finally clear the Congo border post, the track leading into the bush clearly hasn’t seen any kind of maintenance for many, many years. Narrow lanes through tall grass with deep rain gullies on the hills threatening to catch out the unwary rider. Read the rest of this entry »

Timbuktu and Dogon adventures

Riding into the West African heat

Getting ready to cross the mighty Sahara

Our last few days have been dominated by the stunning landscapes of the Atlas and the northernmost reaches of the Sahara Desert.  From Fez we travel south, over spectacular mountain ranges and across vast plains.  The scenery has been breathtaking for mile after mile and culminates in a ride through the majestic gorge at Ziz.
